Two wicketkeepers, Rishabh Pant and Jamie Smith, made headlines on Sunday, September 8. Pant was in the news after he returned to the Indian Test side for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Pant was out of action from Tests due to the severe injuries he sustained in a car accident in 2022. The left-hander made a great recovery to return to cricket in IPL 2024 and quickly found his place back in the Indian cricket team.Jamie Smith, on the other hand, played a whirlwind innings to help England escape humiliation. England were in a commanding position in the second Test against Sri Lanka when they took a healthy lead of 62 in the first innings, however, Sri Lanka came roaring back into the Test and bowled out England for 156 in the second innings, setting a target of 219. Things could have been worse for England had Jamie Smith not played a stunning innings. Smith played a magnificent counterattacking knock and scored 67 runs in 50 balls. Smith's onslaught left veteran England cricketer Paul Collingwood impressed. Collingwood called Smith an 'entertainer' and drew comparisons with legendary Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist."It's exciting when he comes in," Collingwood said of Smith. "He's certainly an entertainer. You go back to the days of when Gilchrist would come in for Australia. It sucks the life out of you as the opposition when someone has the ability to do something like that. In his short Test career, he has shown some great skills," he added.Jamie Smith averages 50.5 in the four Tests he has played in his short career so far, scoring 404 runs, including a century and two fifties. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are 94-1 at Stumps on Day 3 and need another 125 runs to win the second Test and level the series 1-1.
