Pep Guardiola 'contacted' over England job as Man City boss considers next move

The FA has reportedly about the possibility of becoming the next England manager.

Gareth Southgate parted ways with the team following a loss in the Euro 2024 final, and it seems the FA had in mind as his successor from early this season.

While initial discussions appear informal, there's no doubt that Guardiola, with his impressive trophy haul at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and City, is the FA's preferred choice to take on the prestigious role,

The Man City leader hasn't ruled out the opportunity of leading the Three Lions either, with his City contract expiring at the end of the current season.

During an interview on the Italian TV program Che Tempo Che Fa, Guardiola addressed the rumors linking him to the England role: "It's not true. I'm Manchester City manager. I've not decided anything, everything can happen. So I don't know. I still need to reflect and decide what I want to do."

In the meantime, Lee Carsley holds the reins as the interim manager for England. However, after a recent defeat to Greece, his chances of securing the full-time position seem diminished despite the subsequent victory over Finland.

Carsley himself has suggested he might not be in it for the long haul. "I've not really given it much thought. I keep repeating the same thing. My brief was for six games and I'm content with that," he said.

"This is a privileged position. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, although I didn't enjoy the last two days. I'm not accustomed to losing in an England team, I don't handle defeat well.

"People will always try to stake their claim. I'm neutral. My superiors have made clear what they expect from me. This role deserves a world-class coach who has won trophies, and I am still on my journey towards that.
