Prenelan Subrayen to Sean Williams, Oh, bizarre! Tossed it up and outside off, Sean Williams comes forward and drives it to long off and takes a single. However, the fielder is there too excited as he makes a direct hit at the batter's end but the ball gets deflected behind the wickets. Back for the third and final session of the day! The players of South Africa get in a huddle, where the skipper Wiaan Mulder gives a pep talk and now, they are spreading out to take their respective positions. Also, out walk the two unbeaten batters of Zimbabwe, where Sean Williams will resume the inning alongside Wellington Masakadza. Prenelan Subrayen will start the proceedings. Here we go...
... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...
Now, with only four wickets in hand and a mountain of runs behind them, the third session could define the direction of this Test. South Africa will look to wrap things up quickly and might even enforce the follow-on. The ball is still doing enough, and the pitch has good bounce and carry, so it’s not going to get easier for the tailenders. Zimbabwe will need someone to show grit and bat long, but right now, they’re staring at a steep climb. Join us at 1.01 pm GMT for the next final session of the day!
Zimbabwe’s batting, meanwhile, has looked rattled and directionless. The top order collapsed like a house of cards. Kaitano was gone first ball, Myers couldn’t settle, and Nick Welch, despite surviving a few nervy moments, fell after a brief stay. The only resistance came through a short partnership between Wessly Madhevere and skipper Craig Ervine, but even that was broken by Mulder, who seems to have the Midas touch. Ervine tried to be proactive, while Sean Williams has looked decent in his unbeaten stay so far, but the scoreboard pressure is massive. Zimbabwe’s intent to counterattack was visible in small patches, but the task is too tough.
The South African bowlers looked fresh and hungry after their batters did the hard work. Codi Yusuf was excellent with the new ball, hitting the right areas consistently and picking up two quick wickets. Corbin Bosch supported well from the other end and got one for himself. But it was skipper, Wiaan Mulder, who once again rose to the occasion. After spending around 410 minutes at the crease, he came back to bowl and removed both Ervine and Madhevere with smart bowling, using variations and angles to full effect. Senuran Muthusamy also chipped in by dismissing Tsiga just before Tea. South Africa’s fielding has been sharp, highlighted by a brilliant diving catch at point by substitute Zubayr Hamza, adding more fuel to their already blazing fire.
South Africa have taken complete control of the match with yet another dominant session. After declaring their first innings on a mammoth 626/5, they struck gold with the very first ball of Zimbabwe’s innings. Takudzwanashe Kaitano was sent back for a golden duck, and in the very next over, Dion Myers followed. The pressure was intense, the lines were tight, and the bowlers moved the ball both ways, keeping the Zimbabwe batters guessing. From 4/2, Zimbabwe never really recovered, and by Tea, they had slumped to 88/6 in just 26 overs. It’s been a commanding display from South Africa in both batting and now bowling, showing complete dominance across both days.
