India vs Bangladesh: Women aim to finish league stage on a high

Send Push
Navi Mumbai: Having revived their campaign with a crucial win over New Zealand to seal a semifinal berth , India will look to wrap up the league stage of the Women’s ODI World Cup with victory over Bangladesh at the same venue on Sunday.

However, there’s more rain looming in a World Cup already marred by five washouts and several rain-hit games in the Colombo leg. Three consecutive defeats had threatened to derail India’s campaign, but the hosts sneaked into the semifinals as the fourth-placed team after downing New Zealand by 53 runs (via DLS method). Openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal struck superb centuries while adding a record 212-run stand.

Jemimah Rodrigues, recalled to the XI and promoted to No. 3, justified both calls with a brisk unbeaten 76 off 55 balls. India then restricted the White Ferns , chasing a revised target of 325, to 271/8 in 44 overs.

It remains to be seen whether India rest any regulars for Sunday’s clash — particularly wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, who hurt her finger in the previous match. India’s bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi said on Saturday that Richa’s fitness was being monitored. The game provides the team a final opportunity to fine-tune before meeting the mighty Australians.
