Trump 'wanted the kind of generals that Hitler had', claims former chief of staff John Kelly

With elections around the corner, there are growing murmurs about Trump wanting to "rule like a dictator" if elected to power. These whispers have gained louder, particularly after Trump suggested using the military to handle what he referred to as “the enemy from within.” In a series of interviews with The Atlantic, retired Marine General John Kelly , who served as Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff during his term, said that the MAGA leader fit the definition of "fascism" and claimed Trump wanted “the kind of generals Hitler had.”

John Kelly told the interview that the Republican nominee had once told him that he wished his staff acted like "German generals". "I need the kind of generals that Hitler had", Trump said in a private conversation during his time as president, according to The Atlantic. “People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.”

The former chief of staff said that the former president’s recent remarks about using the military against the “enemy within” were so "dangerous" and he would govern like a "dictator" if reelected. Kelly also published a book in 2021 about his time working for Trump and then too claimed that the former president had said, “Hitler did a lot of good things.”

However, the Trump campaign has outright denied the claims by the former chief of staff. "THE LIE: Trump wanted generals like “Hitler.” THE TRUTH: This author is notorious for being wrong and has zero evidence that this was ever said," Trump's social media campaign said.

“This is absolutely false, President Trump never said this,” Trump's spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer was quoted as telling news outlet Independent.

Kamala Harris 's campaign responded to the development and posted a video of the former chief of staff mentioning the claims on Trump. Skeptics, former aides and rivals of Donald Trump had used this line of attack constantly since the latter called them the "enemy within" who are "more dangerous than China or Russia."

In a fox news interview recently, Trump brought the "enemy within," saying, "I think the bigger problem are the people from within… we have some very bad people… we have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the -and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary by the military."
