Deadly highway collision in central Mexico kills 21, injures dozens

Send Push
At least 21 people were killed in a devastating road accident in central Mexico on Wednesday when a trailer truck collided with a bus, according to officials. Eighteen victims died at the scene, while three more succumbed to their injuries in hospital, said Samuel Aguilar of the Puebla state government. Several others remain in hospital with varying injuries.

Photos from the scene showed burnt-out wreckage and thick smoke rising from the crash site along the highway linking Puebla to Oaxaca. Accidents like this have become more common in Mexico, often blamed on vehicle neglect, reckless driving and exhaustion. Freight trucks are frequently involved, fuelling demands for tighter safety rules. Earlier this year, separate crashes killed over 60 people across Campeche and other regions.
