NEW DELHI: A video showing supporters of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar and NCP (Sharad Pawar) MLA Jitendra Awhad clashing inside Maharashtra’s Vidhan Bhavan has gone viral, raising serious security concerns.
The video, shot near the main staircase and lobby, shows both groups exchanging blows before onlookers intervened. The scuffle took place just a day after Padalkar and Awhad were caught on camera in a heated argument outside the legislature premises. That earlier clip showed the two MLAs exchanging sharp words at the entrance, reportedly after Awhad alleged that Padalkar slammed a car door at him.
Reacting to the incident caught on camera, Awhad questioned safety inside Vidhan Bhavan, saying: “If MLAs are not safe even here, what’s the point of being a public representative?”
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the scuffle, calling it a serious breach of Vidhan Bhavan’s dignity. “Stringent action should be taken,” he said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray also reacted to the viral video, alleging that “goondaism has reached Vidhan Bhavan.”
Security officials confirmed that two persons seen in the video have been detained.
Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has ordered a detailed probe into the incident, promising strict action based on the viral footage.
The video has sparked outrage across party lines, with calls for tighter control over entry passes and visitor movement inside the legislature complex.
