NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with the Indian community living in the US amid chants of "Modi! Modi!" upon his arrival at Hotel Lotte Palace in New York on Sunday. This came after he attended the Quad Summit hosted by President Joe Biden .
Earlier, Modi landed at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York to participate in the United Nations ' Summit of the Future . His itinerary includes key bilateral meetings.
Randhir Jaiswal , Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, announced on social media platform X, "PM Narendra Modi arrives in New York, the second leg of his 3-day visit to the USA. The PM will address the UN Summit of the Future, interact with the community and attend other programs."
Prime Minister also shared his eagerness to interact with the Indian community on social media platform X and wrote, "After programmes in Delaware, landed in New York. Eager to be among the diaspora at the community programme in the city and to take part in other programmes."
Indian flags and the chant "Bharat Mata ki Jai" marked the scene as Modi arrived.
As per the news agency ANI, a member of the Indian community said, "We are here to welcome our PM Narendra Modi. We are very excited to meet & greet him personally." Another individual mentioned, "I have specially come from India to welcome PM Modi . This is a handmade portrait made by a Type 1 diabetes child, thanking PM Modi for the insulin that is being provided to him."
On Saturday, President Biden hosted the Quad Leaders' Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. Attendees included Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Prime Minister Modi.
This summit served as a 'farewell' for both Biden and Kishida as they prepare to leave their respective offices.
