Odisha has been selected as the winner of the 5th National Water Awards 2023 with UP securing the second spot, and Gujarat and Puducherry jointly securing the third spot in the list of annual awards announced by the Jal Shakti ministry on Monday.
The award covers nine categories, honouring outstanding contributions to water conservation and management across India. The award ceremony, set to be held on Oct 22, will be presided over by President Droupadi Murmu. Odisha's achievements in water conservation include the construction of over 53,000 water conservation and rainwater harvesting structures and the renovation of 11,000 traditional water bodies. The state has made significant strides in afforestation. UP, ranked second, was praised for its efforts under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
