India announced it will award fifty Quad scholarships worth $500,000 to students from the Indo-Pacific . These scholarships will allow students to pursue a four-year undergraduate engineering program at a technical institution funded by the Government of India .

This announcement was part of the Wilmington Declaration, issued after the fourth in-person Quad Summit .

"India is pleased to announce a new initiative to award fifty Quad scholarships, worth $500,000, to students from the Indo-Pacific to pursue a 4-year undergraduate engineering programme at a Government of India-funded technical institution," the declaration stated.

The summit was hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan.

The Quad seeks to strengthen ties between its member countries and their populations. The Quad Fellowship aims to build a network of future leaders in science, technology, and policy. The declaration also mentioned the welcoming of the second cohort of Quad Fellows through the Institute of International Education. For the first time, students from Asean countries will be included.

The Japanese government extended its support to the program by enabling Quad Fellows to study in Japan. The Quad also recognised the support from private sector partners like Google, the Pratt Foundation, and Western Digital.

At the meeting, PM Modi referred to the alliance as a "force of Global Good" and added that "it is here to stay, partner and contribute", said sources. The PM further described Quad as "Quick Unified Assistance Delivery", the sources said.

Initially, the summit was planned to be held in India, but President Biden preferred his hometown for the event.

The Quad, formed in 2017 by the US, Japan, India, and Australia, counters China's actions in the Indo-Pacific region. The group's goal is to maintain a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. China has claimed that the Quad aims to contain its growth.

This year's summit serves as a farewell for both President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida before they leave office.
