NEW DELHI: Congress party has shared a CCTV video of the shocking daylight shooting at Patna’s Paras Hospital, accusing the Nitish Kumar government of allowing “goon rule” to prevail in Bihar. The footage showed four men calmly walking through the hospital corridor, opening the door to a room, firing multiple rounds at a patient, and then fleeing without resistance.
The victim, Chandan Mishra, was a murder convict serving time in Beur Jail and was at the hospital on medical parole. He was shot inside the ICU and later succumbed to injuries. “The incident took place when the deceased had come for treatment at the hospital. He was on parole,” confirmed Patna Central SP Diksha. “Prima facie, it appears that old rivalry might be the reason behind the murder.”
The Congress while sharing the video targeted the Nitish government over "lawlessness" in Bihar, saying, “Bihar's 'Goon Rule'. In the past 17 days, 46 murders have occurred. Now, in the capital Patna's Paras Hospital, criminals entered with weapons and committed murder by firing shots. Watch this video and understand how fearless criminals are in Bihar."
A case has been registered and a manhunt launched. Patna SSP Kartikay Sharma stated that Chandan was a known criminal with several murder cases against him and the shooting was likely carried out by a rival gang.
The shooting has drawn sharp political criticism. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asked, “Is anyone safe in Bihar? Did such an incident happen in Bihar before 2005, during the RJD's rule?” Independent MP Pappu Yadav, who was stopped from entering the hospital, accused the government of caste-based policing and demanded President’s Rule. “Nurses, doctors, no one is safe in Bihar... Criminals are selected on the basis of their caste, fake encounters are done... There is no such thing as administration in Bihar.”

RJD MP Manoj Jha called for national attention on Bihar’s law and order situation, saying, “Bihar should be a matter of concern for the entire country... Is this the rule of law? When will the Prime Minister send a fact-finding committee to Bihar?”
On the same morning, another murder was reported from Shahpur locality, where 20-year-old Shivam alias Bunty was found dead outside his house with head injuries caused by a sharp weapon. “There is ‘Gunda Raj’ in Bihar. The criminals don't fear the police anymore... No one is safe,” said RJD leader Mritunjay Tiwari. Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh echoed the concern, saying crime during NDA rule had spiralled.
