Donald Trump says he will meet PM Modi next week

Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he will Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week, Reuters reported. Although, Trump did not provide the location, as per reports the meeting will take place during PM Modi's US visit.

"He happens to be coming to meet me next week. And Modi, he's fantastic," Trump said.

Speaking at a campaign event in Flint, Michigan , Trump mentioned the meeting while discussing US-India trade relations.

Earlier, the ministry of external affairs had said that PM Modi will be in the U.S. from September 21-23 for the Quad Leaders summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by President Joe Biden. He will also attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York and meet with members of the Indian community during his visit.

Trump and Modi enjoyed a close personal relationship during Trump’s presidency from 2017 to 2021. When Trump visited India in 2020, PM Modi hosted a massive rally that also marked the opening of the world’s largest cricket stadium, in Ahmedabad where attendees wore "Namaste Trump" hats to welcome him. Similarly, when Modi visited the US in 2019, Trump and Modi praised each other at the "Howdy, Modi!" rally in Texas, which was attended by more than 50,000 people.
