NEW DELHI: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has extended his congratulations to AAP leader Atishi on being sworn in as the third woman chief minister of Delhi. In a statement on Saturday, Tiwari wished Atishi success in her new role, while also highlighting key concerns regarding the state of Delhi.
"I extend good wishes to Atishi for becoming the third woman CM of Delhi... I have written to her over concerns regarding Delhi. We will extend full support to her in the coming 3-4 months," said Tiwari.
In his letter to the newly sworn-in chief minister , Tiwari outlined several issues that he hopes will receive immediate attention. He called for an inquiry into the withdrawal of the liquor policy , questioning the loss of revenue due to the rollback.
"You should immediately order an inquiry into why the liquor policy was withdrawn and how much revenue was lost as a result," he wrote.
Tiwari also raised concerns over the high costs associated with the construction of school structures, pointing out that semi-permanent rooms, which should cost ₹5 lakhs, were built for ₹25 lakhs. Additionally, he urged Atishi to prioritise the repair of streets under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Public Works Department (PWD), many of which, he claims, are in poor condition.
Tiwari further stressed the need for relief from what he described as inflated electricity and water bills , calling for a rollback of the charges. "People from all walks of life—whether poor, middle-class, or traders—are suffering. How are the electricity and water bills so high?" he questioned.
Expressing optimism for Atishi’s tenure, Tiwari said that the people of Delhi have great expectations from their new leader and urged her to address these pressing issues promptly. He also assured her of support from Delhi MPs, stating, "If the former chief minister tries to prevent you from working in order to hide his failures, please inform us, the MPs. We are with you in the development of Delhi."
Atishi was sworn in as the chief minister of Delhi earlier this week, succeeding Arvind Kejriwal, who served in the role for over nine years.
