35 Indians fighting in Russian army discharged after PM Modi-Putin meeting: MEA

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's visit to Russia in July, 35 Indian nationals have been released from the Russian Army , according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal . This brings the total number of released Indians to 45, as 10 were discharged before the Prime Minister's visit.

Jaiswal emphasised the ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure the release of the remaining 50 Indian nationals still enlisted in the Russian Army. "We are trying our best to get them discharged as early as possible," he stated.

The MEA has been actively engaging with Russian authorities to expedite the discharge of these individuals. The issue of Indian nationals in the Russian military has been a matter of concern, and recent diplomatic engagements, including PM Modi's visit, have seemingly influenced the situation.

The spokesperson did not provide details about the steps being taken by the Indian government but assured that they are committed to bringing back all Indian citizens. The government remains hopeful for a quick resolution to this matter.
