As the internet debates about “toxic work cultures,” an old video of Ashneer Grover has resurfaced on social media. In the video, which has been shared by chairman of RPG Group Harsh Goenka on social media platform X, the former BharatPe CEO can be seen “advocating toxic work culture”.

In this video, the former Shark Tank India judge reveals the reason why he quit Ernst & Young (EY) in one day despite the company offering him a Rs 1 crore package.

What Ashneer Grover is saying in the video

Grover is describing EY’s work culture as boring and defending the toxic work culture . He said:

“Jahan pe ladai ho rahi hain na, best office hain. Matlab jaha pe koi bol raha ho ke bada toxic culture hain, bohot sahi office hain woh. Bhai kaam to wahi pe ho raha hain. Baki non-toxic toh bahut saare mil jayenge.”

While sharing the video, Goenka wrote: “It’s baffling to see anyone advocate for a toxic environment. #AnnaPerayil Your views?”

Concerns with workplace practices at multinational companies

With over 3.3 lakh views, the video has gone viral at a time when social media users have been flooding the internet with their views on work cultures. Concerns about workplace practices at multinational firms like EY increased after a 26-year-old chartered accountant, Anna Sebastian Perayil , allegedly died due to ‘ work-related stress ’ four months after joining the company.

In a recent letter sent to EY's India chief Rajiv Memani earlier this week, Perayil’s mother Anita Augustine blamed the company’s ‘work stress’ for the tragic death of her daughter.

In an interview with the news agency IANS, Perayil’s father Sibi Joseph said his daughter was "hardly getting any sleep and was unable to eat proper food,” during her tenure with EY. Despite her parent's advice to resign from the job, Perayil insisted on continuing to work at the "reputed firm", her father added.
