Pete Alonso's Performance Sends Strong Message About His Mets Legacy

Send Push

The New York Mets squeezed out a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, and although it can be considered another win, it meant so much more. Pete Alonso again showed the world why he is the pulse of the team. With a close game going up against a solid pitcher such as Paul Skenes on the hill, Alonso delivered when it counted most, perhaps making a strong argument for National League MVP in 2025.

Pete Alonso's clutch and composed moment wins game

Tied in the bottom of the ninth, the pressure was intense. Francisco Lindor reached on a fielding error, and Juan Soto followed with a strong single. That placed runners on the corners, and everyone focused on Pete Alonso.

He didn't require a big hit, merely a smart, strong swing. On an up-pitch that rose just high enough, Pete Alonso lifted a sacrifice fly. It wasn't pretty, but it succeeded. The Mets took the game, and Alonso walked out quietly, yet again, as the hero.

All season long, Pete Alonso has been patient and in control at the plate. That cool, intelligent style was on complete display in the ninth. His game-winner was just another indicator of how much he means to this Mets team.

Alonso's future his worth and his relationship with Mets
While Pete Alonso is assisting the Mets in winning, his future is also being discussed. He just recently signed a contract to stay with the team, though his contract does have an option to depart after 2026. Nevertheless, he is playing like a man who doesn't want to leave and like someone who knows he's worth more.

His teammate Francisco Lindor indicated he wants Alonso to stay. “He’s one of the best power hitters in the game. Hopefully, he stays with us for a while” Lindor stated.

Alonso also gushed about the team and the city. "This is a great group, with a great culture and great people," he stated. He spoke of how much he holds in esteem the relationships that he has formed with the fans, his teammates, the coaches, as well as even the employees that work in the clubhouse. These relationships are what made him choose to remain in New York.
