JAIPUR: The shooting standard in Rajasthan particularly in Jaipur is very good. The recent success of Avani Lekhara , who won a gold medal in the ongoing Paris Paralympics, will certainly make the sport even more popular in the region.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Mahaveer Singh Shekhawat, who runs several academies in the Pink City to groom international shooters and shooting talent and take them to the national and international level, has launched another academy in Jaipur on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on Saturday. Mahaveer Shooting Academy started in County Sports Complex, located in Vaishali Nagar.

Former Indian shooting team coach Mahaveer Singh said that seeing the popularity of shooting at the national and international level, he felt that shooters have to go far away to play, hence he thought of opening an academy.

"County Sports official and former Ranji Trophy cricketer Yogendra Chouhan had offered me to open an academy here around one and a half years ago but due to some reason I could not open it at that time and he also never offered it to anyone else except me and today that auspicious day has finally arrived on Ganesh Chaturthi," said Mahaveer Singh, who was associated with the Indian shooting team from 1999 to 2022.

County Sports director Abhimanyu Singh was very happy about the opening of Mahaveer Shooting Academy in his sports complex.

"Our aim is to provide high class sports facilities along with quality coaching here. Facilities for badminton, tennis, swimming, chess and shooting will be available in our academy throughout the year. I am sure in the next few years, we will be able to produce top-notch shooters from this range," said Abhimanyu Singh.

Police Commandant Rajendra Singh Sisodia inaugurated the academy. Senior coaches Abhay Singh and Gautam Singh will train the shooters in the shooting academy. National level shuttler Kishan Sharma was also present on the occasion.
