As contract discussions gain momentum, analysts predict a one-year agreement around $30 million. The move could reshape the team’s future while offering Rodgers a fresh opportunity.

Pittsburgh Steelers' potential contract with Aaron Rodgers: Financial considerations and strategic implications
The Pittsburgh Steelers may be eyeing a bold move by targeting NFL veteran Aaron Rodgers as a potential solution to their quarterback dilemma. While still speculative, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin recently projected a possible one-year deal worth around $30 million for the four-time MVP. This has sparked plenty of debate about whether Rodgers is worth that figure at this point in his career — and if the Steelers are the right fit.

Understanding the $30 million estimate for Rodgers’ possible Steelers deal

In his breakdown, Benjamin stated, “If $25 million is the floor, then Rodgers’ financial ceiling is probably about $35 million per year… Cut it down the middle, and you’ve got a logical contract template for Rodgers: one year for approximately $30 million.” This number positions Rodgers just below quarterbacks like Geno Smith, who landed a $37.5 million average annual deal with the Raiders, despite having fewer accolades than Rodgers.

While Rodgers’ 2023 season with the Jets was cut short and lacked the fireworks fans are used to, the quarterback market remains aggressive. That inflation may work in Rodgers’ favor as he explores options for what could be his final NFL chapter.

The Steelers reportedly have the financial flexibility to make a one-year deal work. More importantly, such a short-term contract allows them to gauge Rodgers’ performance and team chemistry without long-term risk. That said, time is of the essence. Steelers owner Art Rooney II recently expressed urgency about making quarterback decisions early in the offseason to provide clarity and direction for the team.

Pittsburgh could benefit from Rodgers’ leadership and experience, especially with a strong core on both sides of the ball. However, they’ll need to weigh that against potential injuries and locker room dynamics. If Rodgers wants one last shot at a Super Bowl with a franchise steeped in tradition, and the Steelers are willing to meet somewhere around that $30 million mark, this match could make headlines soon.
