Can Ayurveda cure Varicose veins? A special oil might help

Send Push
Varicose veins are quickly becoming a problem for a majority of people, and not just adults, but people as young as 25-40 years of age are now contracting this problem.
In Varicose veins, the veins in your legs (mostly) become large and engorged, and develop a distinct blue tint that shows through the skin.
And in Ayurveda, Varicose veins are known as Siraja Granthi, and are believed to be a result of vitiated Vata dosha, which disrupts the normal flow of blood and causes venous swelling, pain, and discolouration.
Ayurveda describes that when Vata invades the venous system, it constricts, hardens, and causes swelling that appears like a rounded tumor.

And if you are someone who does not wish to go the Allopathic way to treat Varicose veins, according to the book ‘Holistic Health: Law and Facts’ by Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, there are certain Ayurvedic ways to treat Varicose veins and the Vata dosha.

For example, the book says that the main treatment for Varicose veins is the application of Sahacara taila (Jhinti Oil), and it is used externally, mainly in massage, to treat early stages of Siraja Granthi. It is believed to help with stiffness, improve blood flow, and helps relax engorged and twisted veins.

The results

The book also mentions about the clinical trials done by the team on people, and proves how these Ayurvedic and natural remedies help in the long run.
In one case, a man aged 39 was treated for Varicose veins using bloodletting and internal administration of Sahacharadi Kashaya, and this was done four times a week for seven days and internally for 28 days.
According to the results published in the book, the combination of the treatments helped reduce pain, itching, swelling, and skin discolouration.

Who should take the Ayurveda route?
Not everyone is comfortable with Ayurvedic treatments, and some people actively disregard them. But with numerous clinical trials, and positive results, it can be worth giving it a shot. Ayurveda emphasises dosha balance, especially Vata, which is linked to vein disorders, and treatments like Vasti, Siravedha, and Upanaha target deeper imbalances, not just surface symptoms like swelling or pain.
Plus, for people who are worried about invasive medical treatments, Ayurveda has options like Abhyanga, herbal decoctions, and enema treatments, which are non-invasive, and can help heal internally.
