Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma once engaged in a heated social media feud during the time when Twitter was still called X, both directors known for their unique styles.

The feud began in 2013 when Varma posted something on Teacher’s Day that sparked backlash. Instead of praising the teachers, he sarcastically criticized their 'unsuccessful careers.' Later, he took aim at Karan Johar's 2012 film Student of the Year, which was the acting debut of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra.

Targetting the film, RGV wrote, “If someone takes off from Karan johar’s Student of the year and makes Teacher of the year it will become the Disaster of the year."

Karan Johar Fires Back

Karan Johar didn't take kindly to the comment and quickly hit back at Ram Gopal Varma. He wrote, 'RGVzoomin ….Disaster of the year is your territory Ramu…no one can ever replace the comfortable place you have made for yourself there.'

RGV replied, 'Hey Karan, my tweet was in a series I put on Teacher’s Day and that tweet was about someone taking off from you meaning it a compliment.'

The Feud Becomes Legendary

Their Twitter feud remains one of the most talked-about celebrity social media battles. However, in 2021, Ram Gopal Varma reflected on his relationship with Karan Johar in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, years after their public disagreements. In an interview, RGV explained that he holds no grudges against anyone, including Karan. He mentioned that their relationship is cordial, and even recalled how Karan had approached him for the title of his film Bhoot Returns. RGV quickly provided it, and Karan thanked him publicly on X.

Although Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar may not be the best of friends, it seems like things are finally becoming amicable between the two.
