Vadodara: Barodians followed the blackout drill on Wednesday evening, which was conducted by the civil defence and the local administration to examine emergency preparedness for a war situation. Residents of most parts of the city switched off the lights of their houses at 7.30pm. Commercial complexes also observed the blackout after a siren was sounded by the authorities.
The Union home ministry directed all states and Union territories to conduct drills to check preparedness. City police officials and civic authorities were also out on the roads to ensure that people complied with the blackout. Many people were seen telling vehicle drivers to turn off their headlights. While all the streetlights were turned off, the decorative lights on the Atal flyover remained on, along with the lights on some billboards.
