Focus on devpt, not divisive politics: Padmaraj

Mangaluru: KPCC general secretary Padmaraj R urged leaders across party lines to prioritise the development and progress of Dakshina Kannada, instead of engaging in divisive politics that harm the image and progress of the district.

Padmaraj told reporters on Wednesday, "Incidents like murders and mob lynchings tarnish the reputation of the district and deter investors, thereby impacting overall growth. Dakshina Kannada has immense potential to attract investment, and we must work collectively to realise that."

Condemning recent incidents of violence, Padmaraj said, "Murder in any form is unacceptable and cannot be justified. All those involved must be arrested and face legal consequences. The mob lynching incident has brought shame on us all. The murder of Suhas Shetty, followed by incidents of stabbing and assault, is a blot on the district's image. Everyone responsible must be held accountable."

He also pointed out the political context of Suhas's background. "We must remember who opened a rowdy sheet against him and during which govt's tenure. Those now calling him a Hindu activist, what efforts did they make to reform him when he was involved in anti-social activities?" he questioned.

Padmaraj said that Hinduism stands for tolerance and respect. "Hinduism does not advocate hatred. It teaches respect for all religions and calls for the uplift of the marginalised. Hatred has no place in any religion. All anti-social elements, regardless of their background, must be treated as terrorists and threats to society," he said.

He also addressed the dangers of misinformation on social media. "Those posting false or provocative content must reflect on how their actions bring dishonour, especially to their parents. Often, it is the families who suffer the consequences when legal action is taken," he said.

He called for social responsibility and harmony, urging the public to rise above hate and work towards peace and progress.
