Mangaluru: The Hindu Mahasabha has criticised political parties for using the deaths of Hindu activists for political gain, said Rajesh Pavithran, president, Karnataka unit of the Hindu Mahasabha.
Pavithran condemned the murder of Suhas Shetty and demanded a high-level police investigation. He told reporters on Wednesday, "The case must be treated with the utmost seriousness, and all those involved in the crime should be identified and punished as per the law."
He demanded that Suhas Shetty's family receive compensation on par with what was provided to Fazil's family. He also called for a re-investigation into all previous murders of Hindu activists in the state. "Only through a comprehensive probe can the political conspiracies behind these targeted killings be exposed," he asserted.
Pavithran accused the police of double standards. "When someone posts in support of Hindutva on social media, police swiftly book them under provocative content. Yet, when there are open death threats against Hindu leaders, no suo motu action is taken. People are raising questions about this biased approach," he said.
On the mob lynching incident, he questioned why 21 people were arrested despite limited evidence, whereas in Suhas Shetty's case, only eight arrests have been made despite substantial leads.
He also warned the Congress-led state govt to tread carefully. "People voted out the BJP because of its anti-Hindu stance. If this govt too begins favouring one community, what message is it sending to the public?" he questioned, and criticised the BJP, stating, "A rowdy sheet against Suhas Shetty was opened when BJP was in power and now the same party is mourning his death." he said.
