KANPUR: A major fire broke out at Chalis Dukan Bazar in Kidwainagar locality during the early hours of Sunday. The blaze completely destroyed seven shops in its wake. Two fire tenders were deployed to combat the flames, which took several hours to extinguish. The incident caused considerable distress amongst the local residents.
The fire started at 4:30 AM, with initial investigations pointing to a short circuit as the cause. Seven temporary establishments situated near the transformer were completely burnt down. Local residents alerted the authorities, following which police and fire services arrived at the location. The firefighting team worked extensively to bring the situation under control.
According to sources, several residents of Kidwainagar had established temporary shops along the pavement adjacent to the transformer. These establishments were selling various items including worship materials, clay pots and plastic goods. When early morning walkers spotted flames emerging from one of the shops near the transformer on Sunday at 4:30, they promptly informed the police control room and fire services.
The presence of plastic items accelerated the fire's spread to all seven shops before the fire brigade could reach the spot. The firefighting team successfully contained the flames after approximately two hours of continuous efforts.
Chief Fire Officer Deepak Sharma stated that the probable cause of the fire was sparking from a transformer short circuit. "No casualties were reported," he added.
