Kanpur: A man committed suicide inside his house on Saturday afternoon due to domestic strife in Hakim Nagar village of the Chaubepur area. Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Alok Shukla, 43, originally from Gujaini, Kanpur Nagar, had been living in Hakim Nagar village, close to the town, for about a decade and a half. His family included his wife, Aarti, and two sons. Alok ran a shop at his house selling tobacco products and gutkha. Due to financial difficulties, Aarti sewed clothes and ran a beauty parlour to support the family. Alok, often intoxicated, would abuse and assault his wife and children. Two days earlier, Aarti had reported the matter to the police.
On Saturday afternoon, Aarti was at her shop. The elder son went for coaching, while the younger son was sleeping in the room. Seizing the opportunity, Alok hanged himself in the courtyard of the house. The incident caused chaos in the home. The police arrived at the scene upon receiving the information. Inspector-in-charge Rajkumar Singh Rathore said that inquiries with the family revealed that the deceased was addicted to liquor. "After the inquest, the body was sent for post-mortem examination," he added.
