Guwahati: Six persons were killed in a fresh bout of gun battle between two warring communities in Manipur's Jiribam district on Saturday morning, forcing the govt to call in Army choppers for surveillance and deploy security forces in massive combing operations with drone detection systems in hand.

Security sources said the build-up to the morning attacks in the district bordering Assam began on Friday soon after suspected militants fired long-range rockets that killed a priest and injured five at Moirang in Bishnupur district.

Manipur Police IGP (intelligence) K Kabib said early Saturday morning, suspected militants attacked Nungchappi village under Jiribam district in which one senior citizen civilian, Yurembam Kulendra Singha (63) was killed.
