Raipur: Senior BJP leader and Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal has stepped forward in support of the 2,621 dismissed B.Ed-trained assistant teachers in Chhattisgarh, urging CM Vishnu Deo Sai to intervene in their plight.
In a letter addressed to CM, Agrawal requested that these teachers be granted "one-time exemption" and be reappointed to equivalent positions such as laboratory assistants or physical education teachers.
In his letter, Agrawal highlighted that due to technicalities in the recruitment process initiated in 2023, these assistant teachers were terminated after serving for 16 months. The decision, he wrote, has caused severe economic and emotional hardship for the affected teachers, many of whom belong to middle-class or BPL families and are now struggling to make ends meet.
"These youth had already become a part of the state's education system," Agrawal wrote. "Today, they are going through mental, financial, and social distress. It is the state's responsibility to uphold its constitutional duties and offer them a lifeline through a one-time adjustment on equivalent posts."
He also pointed out that many vacant equivalent positions such as lab assistants exist in the state's middle and high schools, which could be filled by these qualified but now unemployed teachers. Agrawal urged the govt to show compassion and act in accordance with Article 21 of the Constitution, which ensures the right to life and livelihood.
In a statement of solidarity, the MP said: "Being in power is not just about governance; it is also about wiping the tears of the suffering. These teachers weren't just earning a livelihood—they were laying the foundation for Chhattisgarh's future. I appeal to the Chief minister to adopt a humane approach and take swift action in this matter."
Agrawal's appeal has sparked renewed hope among the dismissed teachers.
