Lucknow: A police head constable died of firearm injuries inside Janeshwar Mishra Park under the jurisdiction of Gomtinagar Vistar police station on Tuesday evening. The police team found him lying in a pool of blood, bleeding profusely from a wound on the right side of his temple, with his service pistol lying near the body. DCP East Shashank Singh said that prima facie, it appeared to be a case of suicide in which the head constable shot himself.
The deceased, identified as Dinesh Kumar Giri, 35, was seen entering the park through gate number 6. As per reports, he was talking on the phone with his wife, who lives with him in the Gomtinagar Vistar area, before he shot himself.
Upon receiving a call from alert commuters, a police team immediately reached the scene. Giri was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
SHO Gomtinagar Vistar, Sudhir Awasthi, said that Giri was currently attached to the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow and was a native of Gorakhpur. He added that the police were gathering further details about the deceased's family. "His wife has been informed of the incident," he said.
