Lucknow: A complaint was lodged after a 25-year-old pregnant woman died in Sajjadia Colony, Talkatora. The woman, Asad Naqvi's wife Khushnuma, was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Her parents alleged that her in-laws beat her to death and fled, leaving her body in the hospital. "The police have sent the body for a postmortem examination. A case of dowry death was registered on the complaint of the woman's family," said ACP Bazarkhaala, Virendra Vikram Singh.
The family said injury marks were found on Khushnuma, while foam was coming out of her nose and mouth. Khushnuma's sister, Ilmaa Hussain said that Khushnuma got married in Feb 2023. However, Khushnuma's husband and his family started taunting her for dowry. They also beat her many times, causing her to suffer serious head injuries.
Everyone reached Khushnuma's house on Monday to settle the dispute. "After we left, Khushnuma was beaten by her in-laws, due to which she died," Ilmaa told police. She added that Khushnuma's mobile was switched off. She then called Asad, who said they were taking her to the hospital. "When we reached the hospital, we came to know that Khushnuma was brought dead," she said.
