Kylie Jenner is a notable star who is most known for her part in the international show ‘Keeping Up With Kardashians’. She is not only a TV star but also a beauty mogul with her own company known as, Kylie Cosmetics which has reached many great heights! While these are some of her endeavours, she takes a very hands-on approach with her parenting to her children Stormie and Aire stating she doesn’t want them to have social media platforms of their own for as long as it is possible. While she does share their pictures on her own social media and you can find their pictures in their father’s platform as well, she thinks it is best if they do not have socials of their own until they “move out of the house.” While some people believe it is too strict, there are many reasons why children should not be on social media from a very young age. Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t let your young children on social media.

They may face cyberbullyingThis is a serious issue that children can face if they get on social media. There are many people who will not hesitate to dox and say hurtful things even to children, and as young children, they may not have the correct tools to handle this. They may feel a lot of pressure and it may affect them mentally as well. They may be exposed to inappropriate contentWhen children are on social media unrestricted, they can come across all sorts of content, whether it is funny content, serious or very violent. These things can affect them if they get a constant stream of it and can cause issues for them down the line. It can change their behaviours, values and beliefs. They may not understand proper privacyThere are many social media predators who are looking for vulnerable children. They can contact these children through social media looking for inappropriate pictures or even their home addresses. They can end up grooming your child and causing them a lot of mental health issues down the line. They may get addicted to itThere have been several cases of children who grow up with social media or having too much screen time to grow addicted to it. They will throw tantrums and scream if they are not given access to it as they have grown dependent on it. It affects their sleep, their academic performances etc. It can give them a distorted perception of realitySocial media often has its ways of manipulating the reality of things. Some children can grow up thinking the worst way about a gender or a community because that is what they are being fed on the internet as they grow up. They may develop their own unrealistic expectations and mess up the different things It may impact their social skillsWhen you have your head down and focused on the phone at all times, it can lead to them having fewer face-to-face interactions and hinder their social skills development. They will shy away from things only to find solace in their phone screens and online persona.
