Don Lemon Mocks Melania Trump's Video On Assassination Attempt, Deletes Post

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon, 58, faced intense criticism after mocking a video statement by Melania Trump about the attempted assassination of her husband, Donald Trump. In a video that he shared on TikTok, Lemon expressed his mute disdain of the former First Lady's comments by rolling his eyes, shaking his head, and ending with his head in his hands. Later, he removed the video without giving a reason. Melania Trump, 54, voiced worries on the July 13 attempt on her husband's life in a short video. She implied that there might be a hidden narrative behind the incident, stating, "There is definitely more to this story. And we need to uncover the truth." She questioned the conduct of law enforcement, namely the inability to capture the shooter, Thomas Crooks, prior to the address at Trump's event in Butler, Pennsylvania. She was dressed in black and spoke in front of a dark screen with menacing music. There was an immediate pushback over Lemon's tacit but obvious disapproval of Melania's remarks, especially from conservative quarters. Concerns over the FBI's handling of the probe and security lapses at the event have already been voiced by several Republicans. Lemon was criticized for his video, allegedly dismissing Melania's emotional reaction to the attempted assassination. "Mocking a woman talking about her husband nearly being killed shows everything we need to know about who you are and what is in your soul," one viewer commented. Some questioned whether Lemon viewed Trump's survival or the ambiguity surrounding the events of July 13 to be more disturbing. A spokesperson for Lemon has not replied to demands for comment on his now-deleted TikTok video. Many critics remarked that, while Lemon could remove the video from his profile, "the internet is forever."The dispute is the result of conservatives' persistent worries about the specifics of the attempted assassination. Even though Crooks was apparently under surveillance by the authorities an hour before he started shooting, it's still unclear how he was able to go onto a rooftop close to the crowd and get a direct view of Trump. Even though Crooks was beyond the venue's security perimeter, he was able to position himself in an area that neither the Secret Service nor the local law enforcement had adequately protected. The gunman fired from 150 yards away, and although Trump was only slightly injured (he had some minor ear bleeding), there was a major backlash due to the security lapses. Concerns increased when Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned as a result of the security failures. The news that Crooks' body was cremated barely ten days after the shooting—a decision the FBI had covertly approved—only served to heighten the dispute. This choice brought even more concerns regarding the investigation's openness. Melania Trump’s video ended with a promotion for her upcoming memoir, "Melania," which is set for release in October. It remains unclear whether the memoir will address the assassination attempt or its aftermath. The timing of the memoir’s announcement, which came two weeks after the shooting, has fueled speculation about whether it will touch upon the incident. As the investigation continues, both the handling of the security breach and the assassination attempt itself remain under scrutiny, with many demanding clearer answers.
