The Balearic Islands are a top summer holiday spot for Brits, but now the schools have gone back and flights are cheaper, potential holidaymakers should consider a trip to the islands as the weather is still scorching.

The island of Menorca, widely considered the most laid back of the Balearics is the perfect location for couples, groups and solo travellers looking for a place to unwind as the mercury drops in Britain.

The island, which is famous for its fishing and wildlife, reaches a balmy 24C even in October - ideal for those looking to escape autumn and winter in the UK.

Menorca is so picturesque, it's been generously referred to as Spain's answer to Mykonos.

According to travel agent TUI, October offers "perfect" sunny days in Menorca around 59 percent of the time, while there is on average only 7mm of rain in that month.

For those keen on exploring the island's gorgeous beaches and taking a dip in the sea, October is an ideal time.

"It's a particularly good time of year to swim in the sea, with water temperatures around 22C, the travel agent said.

One of the most popular beaches is Cala Tuqueta. Visitors to the turqouise-watered beach have raved about its beauty.

One wrote on tripadvisor: "The beautiful natural bay and turquoise sea is absolutely worth the complication of the limited bus service. You can get there but do reserve places on the minibus both ways as even in October people were turned away, Its a 15-20 minute walk from the carpark where the bus stops.

"There's a small cafe in the carpark where you can buy drinks and snacks. The area is popular for walkers so the public maps are a little complicated. Just head straight down and you'll get to the lovely , pristine beach."
