The 1990s Jurassic Park films hold an iconic status, with Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III being remembered by many as the ultimate dinosaur movies.
Despite this high standard, filmmakers decided to reboot the series in 2015 with Jurassic World. Luckily for them, they hit the jackpot with another thrilling adventure into a wildlife park filled with resurrected dinosaurs.
This instalment of the franchise will be aired on ITV today (Sat) at 3:55pm.
Chris Pratt leads the cast in this film, which is set 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park on a fictional island where a successful theme park of cloned dinosaurs has been operating for years. However, the park descends into chaos when a genetically modified dinosaur escapes from its enclosure and goes on a rampage.
The new film pays homage to its original predecessor with numerous references, including recreations of iconic scenes and props, as well as character-based references. While original director Steven Spielberg was not at the helm, he did serve as an executive producer, reports the Mirror.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes were thoroughly impressed by the inaugural instalment of this fresh trilogy - which subsequently generated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018, Jurassic World Dominion in 2022 and Jurassic World Rebirth in 2025.
One critic wrote: "This is one of the great Jurassic Park films. The action is great, the plot was pretty good. Overall this is a good blockbuster summer flick that has aged well through time."
Another said: "Jurassic World is a well-executed reintroduction to the beloved Jurassic Park universe. Though it may initially seem like a retread of the original, it quickly proves to be a unique and original story in its own right.
"The characters are compelling, backed by strong performances that bring the film to life. It stands as an exceptional movie - exciting, emotionally impactful and truly memorable."
Whilst speculation surrounding a follow-up to Jurassic World Rebirth remains purely conjecture, enthusiasts can at least switch over to ITV this afternoon (Sat) for their Jurassic World fix.
