Prince Andrew is locked in talks with King Charles to pack his bags and leave his Royal Lodge home for good, it has been claimed. Buckingham Palace is trying to pressure Andrew to voluntarily leave his 30-bedroom home, from which he cannot legally be evicted.
Some 50 years still remain of his "cast iron" lease from the Crown Estate, however, pressure is mounting to remove Andrew due to his disgraced relationship with the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The King had reportedly hoped that removing Andrew's titles would be enough to ease the negative publicity; however, the mood has shifted now as it becomes apparent this isn't the case.
Royal sources said the focus had shifted to forcing Andrew out of the home, the Telegraph reports, and that they want Andrew to move swiftly to quickly put a stop to the negative publicity.
It is understood that his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, will be "looked after" and their homes in St James's Palace and Kensington Palace will not be affected.
However, finding suitable accomodation is reportedly proving difficult as Andrew will not want to be banished to Norfolk or Scotland, and wants to stay close to his daughters in London or Windsor.
If he moved to a smaller property on the Windsor estate, it could ease public outrage as he would have to pay rent, however, it may be something he cannot afford.
It is believed Andrew will complain about the money he has spent on the Royal Lodge over the years. The Prince has long said it would make no sense to leave a property that cost him £10million, and millions more in upkeep.
If he leaves the Royal Lodge before next June, Andrew would be eligible for a refund of £557,596, which would reduce by £185,865 each year until 2028, when it would be zero.
The Crown Estate, from which he leases the property, answers to the Treasury, which is unlikely to allow the refund to be paid by public money.
The disgraced prince relinquished his remaining royal titles and honours, including his Duke of York title, in the wake of the latest Epstein scandal, and his association with an alleged Chinese spy.
