Liverpool have boosted their transfer funds ahead of a second potential bid for Alexander Isak. The Reds have confirmed that Tyler Morton has joined Lyon in a deal worth up to £15million.
The defensive midfielder had been with his hometown club for 16 years. However, after signing his first senior contract in 2021, he managed just 14 first-team appearances amid loan spells at Blackburn and Hull. He impressed for England Under-21s during their European Championship win this summer though, sparking an approach from the Ligue 1 side.
The move for the 22-year-old will only serve to help Arne Slot in his pursuit of Isak. Liverpool have already had a bid of £110million, plus add-ons, rejected by Newcastle as anticipation grows over an increased offer.
Their Premier League rivals are said to be demanding £150m for their marquee striker. The Reds have thus far refused to match that demand, but having reportedly unsettled the striker, they now have £15m more to play with.
Further player sales are expected at Anfield. Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott are both expected to leave, with the Uruguayan striker being linked with AC Milan and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool still have time to get a club record deal done. The transfer window doesn't close until 7pm on Monday, September 1, although their 2025/26 season officially gets underway with the Community Shield on Sunday.
Isak didn't travel on Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia. However, the 25-year-old has reported for training this week after doing sessions with his former club, Real Sociedad, to maintain his fitness.
It now remains to be seen whether the Swedish international will play any part in Newcastle's final two pre-season games this weekend. Eddie Howe's side play Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, before a trip to Aston Villa in their Premier League opener on August 16.
