Horror as elderly woman dies after being hit by Tesco van in UK city

A woman has died after being hit by a Tesco delivery van, with a police investigation launched. Police have confirmed that the driver of the van has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash took place on Garth Hill in Bangor, Wales, shortly after midday on Monday (September 29) and led to lengthy traffic delays in the area. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the scene but the elderly woman was pronounced dead. Her next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

As reported by The Sun, officers from North Wales Police have launched an investigation following the fatal crash. They are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

The crash happened on Garth Hill, a small road linking Upper Garth Road and Garth Road, and led to local road closures. Garth Road was shut between its junction with Beach Road, running along Garth Road to Garth Hill.

The closures caused traffic delays heading into Bangor on Monday afternoon, with drivers urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes. The roads have since reopened across the area but police are continuing to appeal for information.

A man, 33, was arrested after the crash on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

Sergeant Evans, of the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the pedestrian or the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident to contact us as soon as possible."

The force added: "Anybody with information or relevant dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to contact North Wales Police via the website or by calling 101, quoting reference number C151796."
