German media have taken aim at and the Premier League, with one publication insisting "we don't have to look enviously at England anymore". The Premier League has become one of the most popular club competitions across the world, with part of the attraction coming from the rivalry between top teams such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

United dominated the Premier League for much of the 1990s and 2000s, with the club winning 13 titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester City are catching them up after , with Chelsea winning five and Arsenal getting their hands on three.

Some of the biggest stars in world football have opted to ply their trade in England during the Premier League era, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and Sergio Aguero spending significant parts of their football careers in the country.

But have claimed the competition's allure is waning, with the publication writing: "We don't have to look enviously at England anymore. We've been able to play the Big Six for a long time.

"And let's be honest - nobody wants to watch the games of crisis-hit club Man United anymore. They'd rather watch the Bundesliga."

United appeared almost unbeatable on the pitch during Ferguson's tenure, with their neighbours City mirroring their dominance under Pep Guardiola in recent years.

But the Bundesliga has appeared to be even more of a one-horse race at times, with Bayern Munich winning the competition 19 times in the last 26 seasons.

The Munich giants won a staggering 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles between 2013 and 2023 but saw their reign come to an end last season as they finished the campaign in third place, 18 points behind champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern have returned to the top of the table this time around after winning five of their first seven matches and drawing the other two. They are level on points with RB Leipzig, who have conceded just two goals all season.

In England, Liverpool lead the way after winning seven of Arne Slot's first eight league matches at the helm. Manchester City are one point adrift of the Reds in second spot, with Arsenal and Aston Villa hot on their heels.

English and German clubs will also have their eyes on winning the Champions League this campaign, with Borussia Dortmund topping the league phase table after losing to Real Madrid in last season's final.
