Fruit flies can lay eggs on ripened fruit in your home and can spread unwelcome bacteria. Often appearing out of nowhere, these insects are quick to reproduce and cause a full-blown infestation.
Soon you might find them flying around, pressing up against windows, and popping up out of drains. There's no mistake that a fruit fly infestation can be a very unpleasant experience. Thankfully, there's a simple solution to preventing fruit flies from entering your home in the first place.
According to content creator Julia Hunt, one homemade repellent works wonders to ward off the little bugs.
On her Instagram video, Hunt promises you will "forget that fruit flies even exist" once you employ her trusty method.
All you need to do is take half a lemon and some cloves - the aromatic spice often used in baking - and put them together.
To clarify, you simply stick some of the cloves into the sliced-opened lemon and place it next to the fruit bowl. "And that's it," said Hunt. "They're going to be gone."
Hunt added: "This natural hack works like a charm: cloves act as a powerful insect repellent, and the citrus scent from the lemon enhances the effect.
"Just place it near your fruit, and enjoy a fly-free kitchen-no sprays or traps needed."
People flocked to the comments section to say what a "great trick" this is and how the "timing couldn't be any more perfect".
One commentator speculated that the lemon and clove repellent could also work to deter ants.
