Emmerdale fans could be in for a treat as one star has teased a reunion between Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick). Viewers have been begging for the couple to get back together since they split in 2020 and the likelihood has been slim since Charity married Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). However, their marriage is set to be tested next week after Mack discovers that Charity has offered to be Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) surrogate without telling him. Fans will know that Sarah was hoping to become a mother through IVF, but instead underwent surgery after finding out she had cervical cancer.

Due to complications during the operation, the doctors were forced to perform a hysterectomy, meaning Sarah can no longer carry her own children. After struggling to find anyone that would agree to be Sarah's surrogate, Charity tells her granddaughter that she will carry her child. While Charity's offer puts her marriage in turmoil, Vanessa has become involved with the family once again after being Sarah's initial confidant in her IVF plans.

Speaking to Express Online and other press, Emma was asked whether the rocky patch for Charity and Mack could pave the way for a potential reunion between her character and Vanessa.

She said: "When they have scenes together there is always that potential for an opening again, a reconnection because they get on so well as friends and they always have that spark.

"You never know in soaps what they choose to do from one moment to the next and it's always a joy to work with Michelle so either way it's going to be a win-win. Even if they have a lovely friendship."

"I just don't know at this moment in time what they'll do with the pair of them but I can definitely see an opening happening already."

While Emma said she is unsure about a romantic reunion between the couple, affectionately dubbed 'Vanity', there is certainly an "opening" for something to flourish.

The actress explained: "I just don't know at this moment in time what they'll do with the pair of them. But I can definitely see an opening happening already because there's been dialogue between them - but of what nature, I don't know."

As for Mack, he is devastated to learn that Charity offered to be Sarah's surrogate after telling him she didn't want to carry anymore children. She made this decision after suffering an ectopic pregnancy in 2022.

"Mack feels on the sidelines; he's very much an observer looking in on a situation that he has no control over," Emma said. "Certainly because she kept it from him and chose to go and get the tests, the psychological tests, all done without his knowledge."

She added: "So I think that, in a way, is such a huge deceitful thing to do when you're married to someone, to not discuss that beforehand."
