Fans of Coronation Street were left fuming as ITV issued a major warning before Monday evening's episode aired. Viewers of the popular soap, based in the fictional town of Weatherfield, took to social media to share their frustrations with some branding the need for a warning "pathetic".

Just seconds before the show began, an ITV announcer could be heard warning the audience, saying: "Now on ITV1, with themes of violence, threat and distress, it's Coronation Street." However, many fans were not thankful for the trigger warning and complained on X, formerly known as Twitter. Posting to the social media platform, one viewer raged: "@itvcorrie also giving warnings prior to broadcast. Pathetic, #Corrie." Another moaned: "#corrie Violence, threat & distress. Things ain't what they used to be."
