expert Catherine Southon was left gobsmacked when a World War One periscope fetched an astonishing amount of money on the show.

The item managed to bring in an "incredible" amount of cash, leaving the presenter emotional as she couldn't believe her luck.

During an auction segment on the BBC One programme, the auctioneer announced: "I've got lots of interest on this WW1 antique."

"At £220, looking for £240 on the phone," he added.

"£240, £260 is with me, £280. £300 is with me." As the bidding war escalated, Catherine could hardly believe her eyes.

The auctioneer began by saying: "I've got four commission bids left on the book and I can open up the bidding at £220."

Her co-host jokingly suggested: "I might just go home now."

Meanwhile in another episode, Paul Laidlaw joked that he was going to abandon the show after managing to bag one of his biggest profits.

After making a profit in nearly every time, and making a whopping £191 proft on the day, Paul said: ""Let's throw the profits on a day's outing."

However, host Tim Wonnacott quickly intervened as he insisted: "No you will not, let's get the abacus out."
