Jeypore: The Private Bus Owners Association in western and souther Odisha have called a 24-hour strike on October 7, opposing the launch of Tier-II buses under the Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme.
According to reports, the bus operators will strike in western and southern Odisha from 6 pm on October 7 to 6 pm on October 8.
The association demanded the government to reconsider its decision by 6 pm on October 7, warning that protests will coincide with the Durga Puja festivities.
“We agreed to Tier-1 LAccMI buses and the previous government had unofficially promised to halt Tier-2 services. But nothing happened on ground,” the bus owners said.
The LAccMI buses were initiated by the previous BJD government to connect remote areas, and the current government aims to continue this scheme.
