The Women's T20 World Cup is going on in the UAE. Its group stage matches are over and 4 teams have also been found for the semi-finals of the tournament. Australia and New Zealand have qualified from Group A. On the other hand, West Indies and South Africa have made it from Group B. At the same time, the Indian team had to be eliminated from the group stage after losing to Australia and New Zealand. Despite having a strong team, Team India could not make it to the semi-finals. Therefore, the BCCI is in action mode and may soon remove Harmanpreet Kaur and choose a new captain. If this happens, then 2 players will be considered the biggest contenders for the captaincy of Team India.
Considering the failure and age of 35-year-old Harmanpreet, BCCI now wants to make some changes in Team India. The Women's ODI World Cup is to be organized in India next year i.e. in 2025. According to the report of Indian Express, the board can choose a new captain before this. If this happens, the first option will be Team India's current vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana.
Mandhana is currently 28 years old and has played in big tournaments like the ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup. This means that along with being young, she is also experienced and can lead the team for a longer time. Apart from this, she is also one of the best players on the team in terms of performance. However, middle-order batsman Jemima Rodrigues is one such player who is being considered a bigger contender than Mandhana.
Although Smriti Mandhana is the successor of Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemima Rodrigues is considered a bigger contender than her. Former player and captain Mithali Raj has also demanded that Jemima be made the captain. The biggest reason behind this is that she has a good bond with the entire team. She is known for keeping a good and light atmosphere in the team.
Jemima is often seen entertaining all the players. That is why she is liked the most. Apart from this, she is the most important batsman after Harmanpreet in the middle order. Apart from this, like Mandhana, she also has experience playing in big tournaments. She is also counted among the fastest players on the field. The biggest thing is that she is just 24 years old, which means she will be able to captain for a longer time than Mandhana.
