Manchester Test: England Ropes in Mental Skills Expert Gilbert Enoka, Adds Liam Dawson to Squad

Send Push

Ahead of the crucial fourth Test against India at Old Trafford starting 23 July, England has made a significant strategic move by bringing in veteran mental skills coach Gilbert Enoka to bolster the team's psychological readiness. With the series currently in England’s favor at 2-1, the hosts are aiming to clinch the series with a win in Manchester.

Why Gilbert Enoka Matters

Gilbert Enoka is widely regarded as one of the top mental conditioning experts in international sport. He previously worked with the New Zealand cricket team (1998–2004), the national netball team (1994–1997), and most notably, the legendary All Blacks rugby team, helping them secure World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015. Enoka also has experience with elite football clubs, including Chelsea FC.

His connection with England head coach Brendon McCullum—a close friend—has paved the way for his role with the English side. Given the mental pressure of the ongoing India series and the upcoming Ashes against Australia, his presence could give England a vital edge.

England Makes a Squad Change: Liam Dawson In

Apart from the off-field boost, England has also made a change in its playing squad. Liam Dawson replaces the injured Shoaib Bashir. Dawson, who last played a Test for England eight years ago, is a seasoned all-rounder and brings both spin and depth in batting to the side. His inclusion provides variety to the bowling unit and strengthens the lower order.

England's Playing XI for Manchester Test:

  • Zak Crawley

  • Ben Duckett

  • Ollie Pope

  • Joe Root

  • Harry Brook

  • Ben Stokes (captain)

  • Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper)

  • Liam Dawson

  • Chris Woakes

  • Brydon Carse

  • Jofra Archer
