BBC Radio 2's Vernon Kay has spilled the beans on his marriage to Strictly's Tess Daly, revealing she's not exactly thrilled with his annual "fortune" splurge on Bonfire Night.

Despite being wed for over two decades, the couple still hit snags when it comes to their spending habits. Vernon even joked that Tess "would rather lock him up" during their explosive November celebrations. Chatting with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish podcast in 2023, Vernon gave a glimpse into the Kay household's Bonfire Night bash.

Discussing his preference for hosting events, Vernon shared: "Kind of, I like things like Bonfire Night, because Bonfire Night is usually chippy night, and I like fireworks - I like explosions! " He went on to reveal: "So, Bonfire Night, for me... I think Tess would rather lock me up, because I spent a fortune - I always do on Bonfire Night! We get a load of fish and chips in."

Chef Angela showed interest in attending, prompting Vernon to extend an invite: "You're more than welcome". On the topic of dinner parties, Vernon described his casual approach, favouring a "buffet-style fish and chips" vibe. He elaborated, "We have buffet-style fish and chips, we get a load of fish and chips in and put them on the hot plate - we have a warming Lazy Susan - so it spins and warms! It's perfect, absolutely brilliant.", reports the Daily Record.

Kay opened up about his preference for uncomplicated yet satisfying meals over "posh food," when it comes to entertaining, particularly during fireworks-heavy celebrations. He expressed, "I like entertaining with no fuss, because as soon as you get into posh food..." which led Angela to interject, "You have to think about it too much, it's an effort".

The affable TV host also reflected on the complexities of catering to large groups, especially when spectacular fireworks are part of the event, musing, "Especially with large volumes of people and fireworks," and pondered the idea of having children at their gatherings: "We've got a lot of friends with kids, so I think it's a case of, are we going to have people round with or without kids? ".

Adding a touch of humour to the conversation, he reassured everyone about the innocence of his events, quipping, "I'm not talking 'keys in the bowl party! ' Crikey, oh gosh no! I mean, are the adults going to get involved, end up on the patio, sat around the fire?"
