PS5 price increase immediately hits the UK, Europe and beyond – and it's brutal for gamers

Sony has revealed that the price of the PS5 is going up across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and has announced a price change to the PS5 Disc Drive which doesn't exactly make things better.

The general cost of gaming is on the rise right now, and even though, comparatively, gaming has never been cheaper, it’s still incredibly tough to watch the price of games and their consoles climb up the ladder. Sony has released a that has revealed a number of PS5 price increases across Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Here’s every amended price for the console:

• Europe PS5 Digital Edition – €499 (up from €450)

• UK PS5 Digital Edition – £430 (up from £390)

• Australia Standard PS5 with disc drive – AU$829.95 (up from AU$799.95)

• Australia PS5 Digital Edition – AU$749.95 (up from AU$679.95)

• New Zealand Standard PS5 with disc drive – NZ$949.95 (up from NZ$899.95)

• New Zealand PS5 Digital Edition – NZ$859.95 (up from NZ$799.95)

Thankfully, the price of the PS5 Pro is unchanged. These are some pretty lethal price increases across the board for consumers, and it isn’t a nice change for players still hoping to step into the current generation of games.

There is something left for players, though, as PlayStation has revealed that there will be a PS5 Disc Drive price decrease to accommodate these changes, in hopes that players will be able to get stuck in by downgrading their purchase to a PS5 Digital Edition and upgrade later on. The new Disc Drive prices are as follows:

• Europe – €79.99

• UK – £69.99

• Australia – AU$124.95

• New Zealand – NZ$139.95

This news comes after Sony revealed on its that prices for the PS Plus service across Latin America will be increasing, leaving users to theorise that the rest of the world will suffer similar changes. It’s not a fun change to have to endure under any circumstance, but it seems as though Sony is really starting to suffer at the hands of the changing global economy.
