heartbreakingly revealed why he was “scared” his would turn out like him.

after falling from his balcony at his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday evening, and his saying they were “heartbroken” over his shocking death. The Strip That Down hitmaker leaves behind his mum Karen, dad Geoff and sisters Nicola and Ruth, as well his young son bear, who he shares with ex-partner Cheryl.

In an unearthed interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2017, Liam spoke candidly about becoming a father at the young age of 23, and confessed he hoped his son, who would only be a few months old at the time, wouldn’t turn out like him.

When asked what his favourite thing about being a dad was, Liam said it was when his son looked at him. “They don’t just look at you, they look straight into your soul,” Liam explained, as he revealed Bear also resembles mum Cheryl. “He’s a mini me, and he has her eyes. He’s smashed it on the eye front.”

Liam was then asked what the scariest part of being a dad was, and his answer left the interviewers speechless. “That he might grow up to be like me. You’s don't understand. That’s a pretty scary thought. I’ve been doing this I was 14 years old, I started on when I was 14… you know I’m 24 now, it’s been nearly 10 years,” he explained. However, Liam noticed a shift in the tone of the interview after his comment, and appeared upbeat as he added: “That’s the thing - you can’t really worry about anything because it always works out in the end, otherwise we wouldn’t be here right now.”

Fans were quick to comment on the video, with one writing: “I completely forgot he was a father! Ugh this breaks me even more for his child,” as another added: “He don't want little Bear to go through what he's been through. I'm heartbroken.” Many sent their condolences to Liam’s family, and their thoughts were with young Bear. “Bear lost his dad and that hurts so much. one thing Liam did love was being a father. his eyes lit up when he talked about him,” one heartbroken fan commented.

Liam has spoken candidly about the struggles he faced being a father, and in 2020, he was forced to miss Bear’s third birthday due to the Covid lockdown. “It was horrible and I got lots of pictures and videos, I did a little FaceTime. That's been the hardest thing, it's the most difficult thing for all of us. It's quite funny - the that's been pushing us further apart is pulling us together again,” he said.

In 2018, he confessed he was feeling guilty leaving Bear at home when he went out on tour, and was devastated to miss his son’s milestones. “It has been hard to get home and see him. Loads of random things happen with kids all the time… sometimes you miss dates and things. Then a couple of weeks go by, and I haven't seen him in ages. It hurts.”
