Brits warned to 'bring wellies' for holidays in popular Spanish resort town

If you're considering a spontaneous jaunt to Spain in the near future, it might be wise to check the weather forecast before making any booking.

That's the advice from one British holidaymaker who urged potential travellers to "bring wellies" after his recent trip to the country's east coast was spoiled by heavy rain and flooding. A video shared on TikTok by Viral Vids (@viralvids_______) shows dismal scenes in popular resort town, Salou.

The footage, captured in the resort town approximately 70 miles south of Barcelona, depicts a street more akin to a river with deep water rushing through the centre of a tourist hotspot. Those daring enough to face the conditions can be seen donning ponchos and wielding umbrellas, with some standing almost knee-deep in rainwater.

With an emergency vehicle battling to traverse the roads, Viral Vids wrote: "Pack your wellies lads. Salou is underwater." One follower of the account responded: "Literally in Salou right now and last night was crazy. Everything was flooded."

Another person echoed this sentiment, writing: "Last night was crazy! Went for a walk there and saw a massive tree blow down and it's covering half the road now."

One more British holidaymaker also took to the social media platform this week to share her own experience of Salou, which painted a very similar picture. Jess (@je55x) sarcastically asked in a caption: "How was your holiday? Salou floods."

Her video begins with a close-up shot of herself soaked to the skin, before she pans her camera around to highlight a flooded takeaway and the street outside - with her feet completely underwater. She then ventures out into the floodwaters, capturing shop owners hurriedly closing their shutters in an attempt to prevent further damage.

In the second part of her video, she reveals: "It was as bad as it looked. I have a one-year old child and I had to push my pram through this. It was really bad down by where all the shops are. Lots of places were flooding - they were sweeping the shops."

She added: "It was going so fast, the water. It was a little bit scary. But what can we do except laugh?"

Majorca has also been battered by heavy rain, meanwhile, leading to multiple flight delays and cancellations that have impacted hundreds of passengers.

Palma Airport was even forced to halt landings and take-offs for 20 minutes due to the severe weather, potentially ruining holiday plans for tourists hoping to catch the last rays of summer sun. Some flights due to land at Palma Airport were diverted away to other airports, including Ibiza, Menorca and Barcelona.
