Jaipur: Joining the nationwide protest against the Waqf Amendment Law, the Muslim organizations of Rajasthan have also condemned the new law and decided to start an agitation across the state.
The decision was taken in a meeting of prominent Muslim organization, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, held in Jaipur on Sunday.
"This law violates the fundamental rights given under sections 18, 25 and 26 of the Constitution and even though the President of India signed the law, Muslim organisations will not remain silent. All the Muslim organisations of the state will finalize the strategy of the statewide agitation soon, "said Mohammad Nazim, the state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
He said that under the banner of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Muslim organisations across the country have challenged this law in the Supreme Court as the new Waqf law is based on hatred and the Modi government wants to suppress Muslims by bringing such laws.
Notably, Rajasthan is also among the stats where the Waqf Board has huge number of properties. According to the official information of Rajasthan Waqf Board, there are 19044 properties under Waqf in the state, although the income from these properties is merely 2–3 crore per annum while 706 have been reported to be encroached. The documents reveal that 58 offices of 14 government departments are running on 44 Waqf properties in the state.
