Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 40-year-old woman was killed by a crocodile in Damoh district on Friday morning, police said. She was sitting on the river bank when the crocodile attacked her.
The victim, Malti Bai, had gone to bathe in the river at Kaniyaghat Patti village on the first day of the holy month of Sawan, according to locals. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) RL Bagri said Malti was sitting near the river when a crocodile suddenly attacked her and dragged her into the water.
A villager captured the horrifying incident on video, which went viral and quickly alerted authorities. The Forest Department and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

During the rescue, the crocodile eventually released the woman’s body, which was then recovered by the SDRF team about 40 km from the district headquarters.
The body was handed over to Malti’s family after a post-mortem examination.The Forest Department has since put up hoardings warning people not to enter the river, noting a sharp rise in crocodile population in the area.
